The “Art of Exile” series tells the stories of visionary artists, musicians, novelists and poets whose work challenges the status quo. A Vietnamese pop star who writes songs about sex pushes the boundaries of her craft in her quest to reinvent herself as a dissident. An Egyptian novelist weaves tales of youthful defiance, spending two years in prison during the height of Egypt's crackdown on free expression. A Yemeni sculptor creates magical boats out of found materials, while dreaming of freedom from his cell in Guantánamo Bay detention camp. These films celebrate the creative impulse and are a testament to the resilience of artists around the world who refuse to be silenced.
